About
About Kanji Guide
A calm way to learn kanji, built around pictures instead of repetition.
Kanji Guide teaches 2,131 kanji, from JLPT N5 to N1. Each one has a short story, an illustration where available, animated stroke order, readings and example words.
Where it comes from
Kanji Guide began as an iPhone app. The web version exists so the same course works on Android phones, tablets and computers, without an app store. It follows the same method and the same kanji order.
What we care about
- Meaning first. You learn what a kanji means and how it is built before you meet its readings.
- Pictures you can recall. Stories are short and concrete, and they name the parts you can see in the character.
- A quiet interface. No streak pressure, no noise. Open it, learn a few kanji, close it.
